Today we went to Letterpress Chocolate, an old favorite. Letterpress is one of the only places I know that only does bean-to-bar. When we went in, I was blown away by how little the place had changed. On my left was the wall of collections and family histories, on the right was a colorful array of bars, and directly in front of me was a display counter. On the wall I had just entered through was a bunch of posters with witty sayings about chocolate. The bars had colorful wrappings and featured beans from all over the world, from Ghana to Costa Rica. Some of them were milk, a few of the were white chocolate, and the majority was dark. I sampled a piece from Vietnam with 70% cacao, and I found it earthy and coffee-ish. Next was a sample of Ghana with 50%, and it was a little more fruity than the Vietnam, with a hint of banana and passion-fruit. Lastly, I tasted a piece of Ecuadorian chocolate, with 85% cacao. I detected the same note of coffee that I found in the Vietnamese, with a hint of caramelized sugar. I took home a bar of 50% Ghana, a 70% Mint from Indonesia, and a 65% from Sao Tome, and another successful chocolate adventure ended.
