Today we went to the Chocolate Dispensary, a chocolate store that was a pretty long drive away from us. It was a bit like Farmshop, in the sense that it had many different brands of fine chocolate.
It took us a while to get there, but when we did, there was plenty to see. All four walls had shelves of chocolate, and in the middle, there were more displays of chocolate, all from different chocolatiers. The varieties were endless. They also had a coffee shop in the making, scheduled to open by the end of 2024.
I got right to work selecting things that either looked interesting, or I knew my family would like. Eventually, I settled on a Letterpress Chocolate bar flavored with mint, a collection of pecan caramels by a brand called Christopher Elbow, and a bar by jcoco with butter toffee and Himalayan sea salt. My family loves caramel, and the mint was just a classic. My friends also love the toffee bar.
Afterward, I tasted all three. The pecan was hard, because the only chocolate present was the coating, but I still tasted sour cherries. The mint bar tasted like mint, but behind that was something slightly floral, probably orange blossom. The toffee bar was harder, mainly because the salt in the bar dampened all of the other flavors, as is salt's purpose in cooking sometimes, but I think I picked up on a taste of brown butter. And so, the trip to the Chocolate Dispensary concluded.
Here I am in front of the Chocolate Dispensary. You can kind of see inside, right next to me. There is a shelf, full of chocolate.
These are the three items I chose. From left to right: The jcoco Himalayan salt and toffee bar, the pecan caramels, which were much bigger than I anticipated, and the Letterpress mint bar.
